As parents, we all want our children to be safe, confident, and happy in the water — but one of the most common questions we hear is: “When should my child start swimming lessons?”
The answer? It depends on your goals, but the earlier they’re introduced to the water, the better! Here’s a helpful breakdown by age group to guide your swim journey, plus details about Splash’s programs to support each stage
3–7 Months: Baby Splash
Our Baby Splash program is a gentle introduction to the pool in a relaxed, informal setting. It’s perfect for building early water confidence with your baby.
6 Months – 3 Years: Babies Can Swim
This is a great age for formal water familiarisation. Our Babies Can Swim program uses songs, games, and skill-based activities to build safety awareness and coordination. Once your little one reaches 2.5 years of age, toddlers begin transitioning toward more independent swimming.
3+ Years: Kids Can Swim
From age 3 years onward, children are ready to begin swimming without a parent in the water and independent learning. Each class is ability-based and builds on core water safety and stroke fundamentals.
So, When Should They Start?
The best time to start? As early as you’re comfortable. Even if you’re starting later, it’s never too late! Kids of all ages can benefit from swim lessons tailored to their stage of development.
At Splash’s, our programs are designed to meet children where they’re at whether they’re dipping their toes in for the first time or refining their strokes.
